Major Geography
The UF Online Bachelor of Arts in Geography with a specialization in Environmental Geosciences degree is a joint program between the Department of Geography and the Department of Geological Sciences and is intended for students interested in land and water aspects of the environment.
This interdisciplinary degree includes curriculum that focuses on physical, chemical, and biological aspects of the environment and environmental systems. There remains a strong demand for scientists with quantitative interdisciplinary training in environmental geosciences to address, mitigate, and manage a multitude of complex environmental problems facing society. Choosing this pathway will prepare students to take on these roles.
As a joint program between the Department of Geography and the Department of Geological Sciences, the curriculum integrates foundational knowledge in physical geography and geographic information systems (GIS) with physical and historical geology, as well as earth materials. Specialized core courses include Earth Materials, Foundations of GIS, a Senior Seminar, and more. Areas of study covered by this academic program include disasters, water and mineral resource exploitation and management, environmental planning, earth science education, and environmental law. Students have the opportunity to tailor their coursework to meet their interests by selecting from an array of geography and geology electives to acquire the technical and systematic skills necessary for future application in their professional lives.
