Connect with Your Gator Community: Announcing the New UF Online App

GAINESVILLE, FL – The University of Florida is proud to take another great step to further enhance our vibrant online learning community, UF Online. Today, the new UF Online app is available for download and use by UF students, faculty, and staff directly from your mobile device. We’re all mobile, and now the UF Online app puts the #GatorsOnline community in the palm of your hand. Download the UF Online app now to access the Plaza and other important UF resources from iOS and Android mobile devices.

Finding new ways to connect our students with UF and with one another is core to our mission in UF Online. UF’s now 4,000 online undergraduate students hail from 43 states, Washington, D.C., and 13 countries. They’re earning their UF degree from one of 12 UF colleges, in one of 25 fully-online bachelor’s degree pathways. We strive to provide our Gators, wherever they may be, with easy and convenient access to all that UF has to offer.

UF Online students are already connecting in the UF Online Plaza, their exclusive virtual community hub, since 2018, making it a special part of their online learning experience and connection to the Gator Nation. Many Gators enjoy the convenience of using the UF Online Plaza as a one-stop “home page” for themselves as a busy student. With the launch of the new UF Online app, we’re delighted to bring that connectivity and efficiency into the mobile realm! In doing so, we aim to enhance and increase the usage of these community forums and tools by the #GatorNation, including students, faculty, and academic advisors alike.

What’s Possible in the UF Online App?

With the UF Online app, it’s never been easier to connect with your 4,000 classmates in UF Online. Student Tips: Explore. Engage. Experience.

If you’re a UF Online student but you’ve yet to explore the UF Plaza, there are several interesting features to check out and take advantage of. First, set up your profile by adding a profile picture and filling in your About Me section. Then, join a location group to connect with other UF Online students near you, or browse topics that interest you.

You may also want to follow the Plaza’s News Feed. Customize what you see based on following topics or groups of interest to you. Then your news feed will keep you up to speed with what you follow, what you have liked, etc. You can also sort the news feed by post type, such as answered questions or most recent activity. Use the “hamburger” menu (the top left icon with three lines) at any time to easily access your messages, student help, Canvas, and other main features.

Some of the Plaza’s key features include:

Events

Keep track of digital and campus events you can attend! Check back often as the calendar is consistently updated. This is a great way to find speakers, workshops, job fairs, and more.

Topics

Browse articles to learn about various resources organized by key topics. You can also use various topics to tag your posts with. Find out more about Life in Gainesville, Wellness, Tips, and more!

Clubs

Check out various “clubs” to help you find students with similar interests or experiences as you. Whether it is being a military affiliated student, a Gators sports fan, or identifying as LGBTQ+, the UF Online Plaza clubs are a great way to meet others in our community. Want to add a new club? Just ask!

My Groups

This tab is a shortcut to all your communities, such as your major and the clubs you’ve joined. All PaCE students are also in a specialized PaCE Group, making it easy to reach out to other PaCE students.

UF faculty and advisors are also welcome! We encourage and welcome other members of UF staff to download the app and join in on the conversation or just follow the news feed. If you’d like to join as a UF staff member, simply send an email to studentsuccess@ufonline.ufl.edu. The Plaza is a great way to share things like new courses, research opportunities, or special web events put on by your department. The Student Ambassadors post frequently as well. They’re always there to help answer questions or provide mentoring.

With more than 4,000 students in the Plaza, plus visits from faculty, advisors, and the UF Online team, you’re sure to find someone with similar interests, some good advice, or a new study buddy. Plus, we’re just a chat away from answering any questions you may have. Plan to put some events on your calendar and increase your engagement from UF, from wherever you are around the globe. The UF Online Plaza—whether you access it via the app or your desktop or laptop—is your gateway to the Gator Nation.
