The UF Online Bachelor of Science in Health Education & Behavior degree program provides students with training on how to promote healthy lifestyle choices in individual and group settings, with special attention given to diversity and culturally appropriate health education methodologies.

Our Bachelor of Science in Health Education & Behavior program enables students to focus their coursework on interest areas in health education and health promotion in community, clinical, or worksite settings, as well as in health studies, thus preparing them for related industry jobs or graduate programs.

Please note: Some allied health graduate and professional programs will not accept courses if labs are delivered via online instruction. Please refer to specific prospective graduate programs for detailed prerequisite requirements.

In addition to completing all university, college and general degree requirements, students enrolled in the Health Education & Behavior program will have the opportunity to take a number of core courses. These core courses include Personal and Family Health, Community and Environmental Health, Health Education Professional Development and Internship in Health Education along with several specialization courses such as Women’s Health Issues, Trends in International Health and Minority Health Issues.

WHAT IS THE INTERNSHIP REQUIREMENT?

Prior to graduation, all Health Education & Behavior majors are required to complete a 15-credit hour, full-time internship experience. All required coursework must be completed prior to the internship. Internship experiences must be a minimum of 40 hours per week, which are completed during your final semester in UF Online.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR COMPETITIVE TRANSFER APPLICANTS?

Competitive upper division applicants (students with 60 or more college credits earned) should have at least a 2.0 overall GPA and have completed 5 of the courses below with at least a 2.5 GPA:

Required:

  • Human Anatomy with Lab (APK2100c or Human Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab)
  • Human Physiology with Lab (APK2105c or Human Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab)
  • BSC2005 and BSC2005L (or BSC2010 and BSC2010L) HIGHLY recommended. MCB2000 and MCB2000L will be accepted through Fall 2017, but beginning Spring 2018 the only accepted course will be BSC2005 and BSC2005L (or BSC2010 and BSC2010L)

And any two of the following:

  • Human Nutrition (HUN2201)
  • College Algebra (MAC1105) or higher
  • Statistics (STA2023)
  • Psychology (PSY2012)
  • Sociology (SYG2000) or Social Problems (SYG2010)
  • Public Speaking (SPC2608)

Note: It is strongly recommended to complete all 9 prerequisites prior to enrolling at UF, however, applicants may be conditionally admitted to the program if they have completed 5 of the 9 required prerequisites (including both Anatomy and Physiology with lab courses and Biology with lab or Microbiology with lab), with a minimum GPA of 2.5 GPA in these courses. Students who are conditionally admitted with missing perquisites will be required to satisfactorily complete these remaining prerequisites BEFORE beginning the major coursework.
