Today’s emergency services industry is demanding higher levels of education and training from our nation’s leaders in first response and disaster management. UF’s degree in Fire and Emergency Services (FES) is designed for emergency services professionals who desire an increase in managerial responsibility and leadership skills. Our FES program is unique in that it offers a combination of Fire Science, EMS and Emergency Management courses designed to meet your professional aspirations.

A career in emergency services opens the door to a variety of rewarding careers, as well as a unique opportunity to help protect the public by minimizing danger through leadership in the public or private sector of emergency services. Graduates can find jobs at the local, state and national level of government, insurance companies, industry and other areas. Through our FES program, students earn a regionally accredited Bachelor of Science in Fire and Emergency services from industry-recognized faculty, and the ability to specialize in one of the following three specializations:

  • Fire Specialization
  • Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Management Specialization
  • Emergency Management Specialization

Note that the degree program does not certify you as a firefighter or provide you with EMS certification, but rather prepares you academically to manage fire, EMS or emergency management agencies.

What are the criteria for competitive transfer applicants?
  • An Associate of Arts degree from a Florida state or community college, or
  • 60 transferable credits from a regionally accredited college or university that meets the state of Florida’s general education requirements (36 credits GE/24 elective). Electives can include fire and EMS courses
  • Minimum 2.3 GPA. Conditional and petition admissions possible with review of experience and certifications

Tuition Rate for non-Florida Residents

The tuition rate for out of state tuition students admitted to the Fire & Emergency Services program is $300 per credit hour.
