GAINESVILLE, FLA. – The University of Florida has become the first university in the state to be ranked among the top 10 public institutions nationwide by U.S. News and World Report.
UF tied for ninth place with the University of California, Irvine and the University of California, San Diego in the 2018 Best Colleges rankings released Tuesday. Now the highest-ranked university in Florida, UF rose eight spots in the national rankings since last year and 16 spots since 2012.
“These milestones are the result of the vision, persistence, focus and excellence of faculty, staff, alumni and friends over many years,” says UF President Kent Fuchs.
To become a top 10 public university, U.S. News evaluated UF using key measures of quality that determine undergraduate academic reputation. Those include student selectivity, graduation rate performance, and faculty resources, among others.
UF offers the same academic excellence, renowned faculty and highly regarded degrees through its online undergraduate program.
“Students in our online programs earn the same degrees as their on-campus counterparts,” says Evangeline Cummings, Assistant Provost and Director of UF Online. “The U.S. News rankings further reinforce the tremendous value and distinction of a degree from the University of Florida and solidify the college’s standing as a top-tier public research university.”
