Celebrate the Gator Nation with Homecoming Events in Gainesville
The University of Florida Homecoming festivities are Gator favorites, comprised of age-old traditions. From Oct. 1 through Oct. 7, there will be events in Gainesville leading up to the highly anticipated rivalry between our beloved Gators and the LSU Tigers in The Swamp on Saturday. You are welcome to join us as Gators near and far come together to celebrate being a part of the Gator Nation.
>Soulfest kicks off the festivities on Sunday, Oct.1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Curtis M. Phillips Center. This is a free multicultural event featuring live forms of art displayed through dancing and singing from UF students and local Gainesville residents.
The Homecoming Festival on Friday, Oct. 6 is a family-friendly event for the Gainesville community as well as UF students. Vendors, bounce houses, student organizations and live music will be in the Plaza of the Americas from 10 a.m. to noon for everyone to enjoy.
The SunTrust Gator Gallop is a two-mile run for Gators to get moving. The run begins on Friday morning at 11:15 a.m. at the James G. Pressly Stadium and ends in the Plaza of the Americas. After you complete your two-mile run, stay in the Plaza for the Homecoming Festival and keep the celebration going. Find out more information about registering for the run here.
The Homecoming Parade draws a crowd of over 100,000 people to University Avenue. Spectators watch on Friday afternoon as over 150 floats representing local and university organizations make their way down Gainesville’s main strip.
Gator Growlis one of the longest-standing traditions at UF, having begun in 1924. As the largest student-run pep rally in the nation, Gator Growl brings in popular performers for faculty, staff, students, alumni and locals to enjoy. This year’s line-up features Snoop Dogg and Daya. The event begins on Friday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. at Flavet Field. Don’t forget to buy your ticket and be a part of the unity and excitement as we approach game day.
The UF Online Tailgate is the perfect opportunity to meet peers, faculty members and academic advisors in a fun setting with food and activities. Stop by the Reitz Union North Lawn between noon and 3 p.m. to join the party. Several UF colleges will be hosting their own tailgates as well. At the Emerson Alumni Hall, The Homecoming BBQ is open to students, alumni and friends.
After tailgating, make your way to The Swamp to watch the Gators face the LSU Tigers. Cheer loud and proud for our football players who traveled to Baton Rouge last year after our home game was moved. Find out more information about tickets on the University Athletic Association website.
