The UF Online Bachelor of Science in Tourism, Event and Recreation Management provides students with a well-rounded curriculum preparing them to move into any aspect of service industry management. This major requires a specialization in either Event Management or Tourism and Hospitality Management to give students a deeper understanding in these fields.

The tourism industry has a continued need to recruit highly qualified employees to manage teams and create excellent experiences. With 1 billion people traveling annually, tourism is the largest and fastest growing industry in the world. This comprehensive degree prepares students to join a field that ranks among the top three largest employers in 29 U.S. states.

A degree in Tourism, Event and Recreation Management requires core professional courses such as those in management and supervision, research methods, and more. This major covers various career fields, including management of hotels, theme parks, cruise lines, restaurants, and convention centers, as well as tour operations and other services within the vast industry. The Tourism and Hospitality Management specialization goes further into depth on topics such as lodging operations, tourism planning, and tourism and hospitality marketing, while the Event Management specialization focuses on event promotion, convention sales and services, and strategic planning.

WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA FOR COMPETITIVE TRANSFER APPLICANTS?

Competitive upper division applicants (students with 60 or more college credits earned) should have at least a 2.0 overall GPA and completed the following courses with at least a 2.0 GPA:

  • Introductory Sociology (SYG 2000)
  • General Psychology (PSY 2012)
  • Macroeconomics (ECO 2013) OR Microeconomics (ECO 2023)
  • Developmental Psychology (DEP 2004)
  • Public Speaking (SPC 2608)

Note:

  • Upper-division applicants with 60 or more transferrable college credits may be considered for conditional admission if they have completed 3 out of 5 prerequisites including Macroeconomics (ECO 2013) or Microeconomics (ECO 2023).
