Why a Sport Management Degree?

The UF Online Bachelor of Science in Sport Management degree program equips students with the tools to apply the fundamental concepts of management, marketing, finance and law to sports organizations.

Students go on to pursue careers in a variety of organizations, from professional sport franchise and intercollegiate athletic departments to sports media companies and sport organizing committees. Within these organizations, students get involved in a range of job functions such as facility and event management, marketing, administration, compliance, ticket operations, sponsorship sales, fundraising and player representation.

In addition to completing all university, college and general degree requirements, students enrolled in the sports management degree program will have the opportunity to pursue core courses, including Sport and Society, Sport Facility Design and Management, Sport Marketing, Business Finance and an internship in Sport Management, along with several elective courses such as The Legal Environment of Business and Entrepreneurship.

What is the Internship Requirement?

Prior to graduation, all Sport Management majors are required to complete a 12-credit hour, full-time internship experience. All required coursework must be completed prior to the internship. Internship experiences must be a minimum of 40 hours per week, which are completed during your final semester in UF Online.

What are the criteria for competitive transfer applicants?

Competitive upper division applicants (students with 60 or more college credits earned) should have at least a 2.0 overall GPA and have completed 5 of the courses below with at least a 2.5 GPA:

Required:

  • College Algebra (MAC1105) or higher
  • Macroeconomics (ECO 2013) OR Microeconomics (ECO 2023)

And any two of the following:

  • Statistics (STA 2023)
  • General Psychology (PSY2012)
  • Public Speaking (SPC2608)
  • Financial Accounting (ACG 2021)
  • Problem Solving Using Computers (CGS 2531) OR Educational Technology (EME2040)

Note: It is strongly recommended to complete all 7 prerequisites prior to enrolling at UF, however, applicants may be conditionally admitted to the program if they have completed 4 of the 7 required prerequisites (including Macroeconomics or Microeconomics and College Algebra or higher), with a minimum GPA of 2.2 GPA in these courses. Students who are conditionally admitted with missing perquisites will be required to satisfactorily complete these remaining prerequisites BEFORE beginning the major coursework.
