Why a Bachelor’s in Health Education & Behavior?

The UF Online Bachelor of Science in Health Education & Behavior degree program provides students with training on how to promote healthy lifestyle choices in individual and group settings, with special attention given to diversity and culturally appropriate health education methodologies.

This Bachelor’s in Health Education program enables students to focus their coursework on interest areas in health education and health promotion in community, clinical, or worksite settings, as well as in health studies, thus preparing them for related industry jobs or graduate programs. Please note: some allied health graduate and professional programs will not accept courses if labs are delivered via online instruction. Please refer to specific prospective graduate programs for detailed prerequisite requirements

In addition to completing all university, college and general degree requirements, students enrolled in the Health Education & Behavior program will have the opportunity to take a number of core courses, including Personal and Family Health, Community and Environmental Health, Health Education Professional Development and Internship in Health Education along with several specialization courses such as Women’s Health Issues, Trends in International Health and Minority Health Issues.

What is the Internship Requirement?

The final 15 credit hours in this program consist of a required internship in a health education and behavior related field. Internship experiences must be a minimum of 40 hours per week completed during the final UF semester. All required coursework must be completed prior to the internship.

What are the criteria for competitive transfer applicants?

Transfer students will need to have the required courses listed below completed (with a 2.50 GPA and no grade below “C”) prior to being considered for admission.

Required:

  • APK 2100C (Applied Human Anatomy with Laboratory)
  • APK 2105C (Applied Human Physiology with Laboratory)
  • MAC 1105 (Basic College Algebra) or higher
  • PSY 2012 (General Psychology)
  • STA 2023 (Introduction to Statistics)

The remaining courses must be completed by the end of the second semester you are enrolled in UF Online:

  • HUN 2201 (Fundamentals of Human Nutrition)
  • MCB 2000 (Microbiology) with Lab or BSC 2005 (Biological Sciences) with Lab (or equivalents)
  • SPC 2608 (Introduction to Public Speaking)
  • SYG 2000 (Principles of Sociology)
